HOSHIZAKI CORPORATION (Head office: Toyoake City, Aichi; President & CEO: Yasuhiro Kobayashi; hereafter “Hoshizaki”) will launch three types of floor-standing vacuum packer that can provide more than double1 the seal length (seal of bag opening) of Hoshizaki’s current products. They will be Hoshizaki’s first floor-standing vacuum packers. Shipment of the new machines will start on June 25, and they will be sold through Hoshizaki’s sales companies.
Floor-standing Vacuum Packer HPS-900A3
■Vacuum packer that keeps food safe and fresh for longer and makes food preparation more efficient
A vacuum packer is a product for packing food whereby, when food is placed in a special bag and set in the machine, the machine removes the air from the bag to create a vacuum, then seals the opening of the bag. This keeps food safe and fresh for longer by not exposing the food to oxygen, which many bacteria, the cause of food spoilage, need to multiply. At the same time, it prevents moisture evaporation. When a vacuum is created, the air inside the food is removed, allowing seasoning to penetrate the food more easily. This means that the food absorbs flavors quickly even with a small quantity of seasoning. Vacuum packing is also used for freezer storage.

■Contributing solutions to the issues of food processing and other businesses that handle larger food items
With the diversification of food, Hoshizaki is focusing its efforts to expand sales to customers other than restaurant sector (restaurants, izakaya pubs, etc.)
Demand for vacuum packing of food is growing across all food-related industries. This is because it is effective in reducing food waste, enabling bulk purchasing to cut costs, and helping to address labor shortages through the freezing of prepared dishes and processed ingredients.
All of Hoshizaki’s previous vacuum packers have been small, table-top models, with the largest seal length being approximately 400 mm2. Making the new products floor-standing has allowed for a larger chamber, the part of the machine where the bags to be vacuum-packed are set, and made it possible to seal the bags with a seal length of up to approximately 930 mm, which is more than double that of the existing products. The machines can accommodate larger bags and more bags simultaneously.
Hoshizaki will target sales primarily to food processing and retail businesses, such as catering and bento services, seafood processing, and prepared dish/delicatessen outlets. There is demand from these kinds of businesses for packaging of food, such as large fish, that do not fit in existing machines, and for the simultaneous vacuum-packing of large numbers of bags. By combining this new product with the liquid freezer that freezes food with liquid ethanol at -35°C launched in December 2023, Hoshizaki will strengthen its product proposal capabilities to address the issues of its customers.
